JOURNEY

RECENT ADVENTURES #3

The golden October, probably the most colorful time of the year. I always wanted to explore the landscape around my hometown a little bit more. As soon as I saw summer-like temps and sunshine in the forecast, I decided to jump on the train and head home. Finally seeing my family and friends again, escaping the busy city environment.

Cityscape of Kiel. Sitting on the rooftops of the city is an amazing feeling, but sometimes you just don't want to see concrete and listen to noisy cars all day long.

I don't know why, but I always connected hiking with mountains and being far away from home. Well yes, I was wrong. Strolling through the woods of my childhood still delivers so many different sights. It's impossible for me to say that I do know all of the beautiful spots in that area, even if it feels like I would know it like the back of my hand.

The landscape of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is filled with uncountable lakes. Each one of them is special. Needless to say, that a boat is a huge bonus. I got super happy, as my friend told me about the small lake in the backyard, my smile got even bigger as he revealed the little boat which was floating right next to the shore.

Wooden planks merging into the lake...how long will it take, till all of them are covered with water?

Our goal was to reach a raft on the lake called "Dixi Island". I'm not sure why they named it after a mobile toilet and at this point I'm not sure if I really want to know it...The lake itself was a pretty nice place to go fishing, so that's why the neighborhood decided to build that thing. I could totally imagine sitting there in the sunset, listening to the birds and trying to catch a few fishes. We didn't have any fishing rods with us, but it was still very calming to chill there for a couple of minutes.

We continued our day trip with a hike through the woods, not looking for particular trails. Bushpassing can be a lot of fun. I'm still amazed by all the color which the light provided. Those complementary tones are just gorgeous! We knew that there had to be a fish ladder somewhere in the field. It was impossible to see the river but we were able to listen to the water and found the spot we wanted to reach. One of the most rewarding sunsets I've had in a long time. We sit down and watched the sun going down and asked ourselves, how many people have already been to that place? There was no trail, no sign, nothing except a few marks of wild boars searching for food. And that's it. It's hard to describe how it feels to be away from all that city stress...I can only recommend taking a break from all the urban life. You should give it a try ;)
